Captains Kali and Mark are a local daughter–father duo with over 70 years of combined sailing experience along the Connecticut coastline. Kali’s earliest memories are of sailing adventures on Block Island Sound with her sister, where she first learned terms like “port” and “starboard” from her grandfather. Over the past three decades, she has continued sailing alongside her father in local races, learning the ins and outs of the sport.

Kali has since taught at numerous sailing programs in Newport, Stonington, and along the Connecticut River in Essex. She believes anyone who endeavors can become a capable sailor.

Mark, a retired nuclear engineer, brings a deep understanding of mechanics and a keen eye for patterns. He loves sailing for the balance it requires—skill, experience, knowledge, and a little bit of luck.

Sound Sails was created out of a shared passion for sailing and lifelong learning. We love sharing the beauty of Fishers Island Sound, where steady winds and scenic views of Mystic, Groton Long Point, Fishers Island, and Watch Hill create the perfect setting for a day on the water.
